Marla Allison "Within the Earth" Silk Scarf

Item No: 6939

$ 199.00

  • This silk scarf is printed with a vivid painting by artist Marla Allison (Laguna), who created a suite of new canvases in early 2017 for a solo show at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center. The series "Consumed by Design" reimagines the designs that Laguna potters have used to decorate their pottery for centuries, applying them to a new surface and adding a personal splash of color in the process. Thanks to Allison's love of bright hues and bold designs, her paintings transfer beautifully to luxurious 100% silk charmeuse. In "Within the Earth," Allison envisions potters clay from the earth, absorbing the earth's designs, and later expressing them through their paint strokes on the final pottery.

    • Replica of the original painting "Within The Earth" by Marla Allison (Laguna Pueblo)
    • Scarf measures 36” long x 36” wide
    • Silk Charmeuse
    • 100% plain weave silk. Imported.
  • Marla Allison is an award-winning painter who works from her home studio in Laguna Pueblo. Her artwork has been displayed in over a dozen group and solo exhibitions since she graduated from the Institute of American Indian Arts in 2000, and has been acquired by such institutions as the Heard Museum Permanent Collection in Phoenix, Arizona, the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and the Red Cloud Indian School Collections in Pine Ridge, South Dakota. She is known for vivid paintings that depict the landscapes, wildlife, architecture, and particularly the people of her home Pueblo. She deliberately draws inspiration from Laguna's artistic traditions, and as the 2010 recipient of the Eric and Barbara Dobkin Native Woman’s Fellowship, she had the opportunity to examine the Pueblo’s more ancient pottery firsthand at the School for Advanced Research (SAR) in Santa Fe.
